Choosing a Workers’ Compensation Lawyer: What Matters Most

Not a week goes by that I do not receive a call from a disgruntled worker wanting to switch lawyers. The conversation goes something like this: “I was hurt on the job. My lawyer doesn't call me back. I have no idea what is going on and I have had it.

I hate these calls because it is so difficult to fix the problem. After some initial questioning I usually learn that the problem is a lack of communication combined with a lawyer that is either inexperienced or is not an expert in workers’ compensation.

There is no more specialized area of the law than workers’ compensation. It has its own court system, rules, and laws drafted just for work-related cases. It was designed to deliver quick benefits like lost wages and medical treatment. That is if you know what you need to do to get those benefits.

Injured workers who pick lawyers from billboards, commercials, TV, and other quick fix advertisements are in for a rude awakening if the lawyer they get is not a full-time workers’ compensation lawyer. The laws and rules are too complicated to think it can handled part time.

I am Rich Marcolus. I have handled compensation cases at Levinson Axelrod since 1985. I have handled thousands of cases covering every imaginable scenario. I have fixed cases that were seemingly impossible after other lawyers screwed up. I am certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Workers Compensation Lawyer. I have appeared before and know every Judge in the state. I have testified before the NJ Senate in favor of and against workers’ compensation laws. I have drafted bills that became the law. I am one of the founders of COSH. (Council on Safety and Health). This organization monitors workers compensation legislation. Under my leadership the organization has grown from three members to over 200. We have been instrumental in protecting injured workers rights.

I am a union member of Carpenters and Joiners Local 253. I have been a member since 1979. I worked as a carpenter and welder and still go to my union meetings. I am proud to be a blue-collar worker. I practiced my trade with dedication and pride. I have been nicknamed the HAMMER of Justice by my Brothers and Sisters at Local 253.
