NJ Law Journal Features Firm's $2M Medical Malpractice Settlement Over Fatal Aortic Tear
|

A recent multi-million dollar settlement secured by Levinson Axelrod, P.A. Partner Adam L. Rothenberg and Senior Associate Rosemary E. McGeady, M.D. has been profiled in the New Jersey Law Journal’s “Suits and Deals” section. The article covers a case in which our firm represented the estate of an elderly woman who was fatally injured during a kidney removal procedure.

As noted in the article, the case – Estate of Schernitz v. CentraState Medical Center – involved a 71-year-old woman who died as a result of complications stemming from an aortic tear sustained during kidney surgery at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold.

Claiming that the attending physicians negligently stapled the aorta, failed to meet acceptable standards of care, and ultimately caused the complications and victim’s eventual death, Adam and Rosemary filed suit against the Medical Center and two surgeons. They were eventually successful in negotiating a settlement with the surgeons’ insurer for $2 million, which covers the family’s damages and a medical lien totaling approximately $250,000.

Read more on our blog, where we discuss the case and the work of Attorneys Rothenberg and McGeady, who leveraged their expertise as a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer and Board Certified Physician to help the victim’s family prevail.
