Levinson Axelrod attorneys Brian McElroy, Patrick Flinn and Michael Fusco volunteered their time to lead a group of about 40 high-achieving high school students through a mock trial of a hypothetical drunk driving prosecution at the Justice Session for Youth Leadership Somerset on February 11.
The Youth Leadership Somerset is a youth leadership program available for high school students who live in Somerset County once a month between September and May every year. It focuses on teaching the participating students about ethical and civic issues, the importance of using principled leadership, teamwork and personal responsibility to solve community issues and giving those participating the chance to meet and connect with adults who are leaders in the community and experts in their field.

“This is my sixth year helping facilitate the mock trial,” said Fusco. “Each year I am so impressed by the talent and enthusiasm of these young men and women from around Somerset County.”

The students had very positive comments on their evaluations and appreciated the opportunity to learn from you. Especially the students under your guidance during the preparation and 'trial'. You all have a wonderful way of connecting with the students, and making the day a fun and successful experience.”

Fusco stated that one of his goals during the session is to convince the attendees to at least consider pursuing a career in law.
“We always start the session with asking the students if they have any interest in pursuing a career in law,” he said. “My goal is to get more hands at the end of the session then we did at the start -- once again we achieved that objective.”
