Organic brown rice syrup is commonly found in organic food products, and used as a substitute for high fructose corn syrup.
According to a new study, the brown rice syrup is the source for high levels of arsenic, a compound that can increase the risk of cancer in individuals. This type of syrup is contained in organic cereal bars, energy shots, as well as certain baby foods.
Researchers discovered that some of these products had as much as 12 times the safety limit of arsenic levels in drinking water. Rice is thought to be a large source of arsenic in diets. After the study was conducted, it has been recommended that a healthy level of arsenic be determined in food sources.

Norwegian smoked salmon that was produced by the Smokehouse in New York has been recalled because it was found to contain Listeria monocytogenes.
The salmon was distributed by the company in early March to several stores in the country, including some in New Jersey. The FDA has reported that there have been no illnesses caused by the contaminated salmon, and this is a precautionary recall. Consumers who have purchased the salmon have been advised to immediately return it to the store from which they purchased it for a refund.
