Wrongful death lawsuit filed against New Jersey nursing home

Posted on Thursday, July 14th, 2011 at 5:31 pm

A wrongful death lawsuit was recently filed against Harborage Nursing Home in New Jersey by the family of an 87-year-old woman who died while staying at the home.

According to the lawsuit, the woman, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and was partially paralyzed, was physically abused by employees of the home. This abuse was captured by a “granny cam” that was placed in the woman’s room in order to catch her being physically abused. One tape was said to show an employee removing the woman’s oxygen mask and striking her several times.

The family is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages for emotional anguish and distress.

Family plans to file lawsuit against nursing home for abuse

The family of a 78-year-old woman is planning to file a lawsuit against the Pennsylvania nursing home, Sunrise Senior Living, Inc., for physically abusing the woman.

The woman was staying at the nursing home when she began making claims that she was being abused by employees. The nursing home refused to take action and attributed the claims to the woman’s Alzheimer’s disease. Videotapes then surfaced showing three employees severely beating the woman.

The CEO of Sunrise Senior Living, Inc., has expressed concern and remorse in the situation. The woman is now living with her family, and they are expected to seek punitive and compensatory damages from the nursing home.
