Dog attacks police officer at New Jersey beach
Posted on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 at 7:16 pm
A pit bull terrier named Cleo attacked an officer at Seaside Park’s L Street beach last week.
The officer was responding to a complaint that the animal was being allowed to run on the beach without its leash. The beach has a strict policy forbidding pet owners from allowing their furry friends to be unleashed.
When the officer arrived, the dog was leashed, but became upset when the officer approached. It lunged for the officer and bit his finger before its owner was able to get the situation under control.

Infant dies after dog attack
Posted on Friday, September 9th, 2011 at 8:01 pm
A newborn baby died late last week in Houston when the family dog, a Labrador mix, attacked him. The baby’s mother was outside watching the child through the window when the dog pushed his way inside and approached the infant in his baby carrier.
After the dog approached the baby, it began to bite and maul the child. Family members pulled the dog off and the child was taken by LifeFlight to the hospital where he died five hours later. Animal experts say that even dogs with no history of aggression or violence can feel threatened and attack in new situations. The dog has been taken to Animal Control and law enforcement will determine its fate.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the parents.

A U.S. Airways flight was forced to land after a dog on board bit two people.
The flight ran from New Jersey to Arizona and an 89-year-old woman was traveling with her dog. The dog then became agitated and a passenger tried to calm the dog. The 12-pound dog then broke out of the cage and bit a flight attendant.
The bites were not severe, but the pilot landed the plane as a precaution. The flight then resumed without the woman and her dog. Authorities have said that they are not going to cite the woman for her dog biting two people.

Neighborhood in Pennsylvania has issue with certain breed of dogs
Posted on Friday, May 7th, 2010 at 11:07 am
A meeting was called in a Pennsylvania neighborhood on whether or not to allow a resident to keep his dogs, five Rhodesian ridgebacks, because other residents think that the animal will be too dangerous.
The borough commissioner called the meeting to discuss the dangers that Rhodesian ridgebacks may pose to the residents of the neighborhood. The man came equipped with facts and stories on attacks that these dogs have been involved in, their maximum jumping height, and how some are breeded to hunt lions in Africa.
Some places put restriction on certain breeds, but like many small minority states New Jersey and Pennsylvania prohibit cities from making breed specific laws. The resident’s dogs are prize winning animals, but seem to make the other residents nervous to have them around. There has been no decision on the issue, because it is against the law to discriminate on a breed of dogs.
