This past Saturday, a two car accident occurred in Jersey City on the New Jersey Turnpike Extension. According to police reports, the accident happened around 3:45 A.M. when a driver driving a 1999 black Honda Accord was traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of the turnpike.
30-year old Pedro Gomez-Vallejos was driving the Honda westbound and struck a green 1997 Ford Taurus head-on in the left-most eastbound lane of the highway. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for care.
The unidentified victim of the accident, a Jersey City man, had to be transferred to University Hospital in Newark where he was listed as being in serious, but stable, condition. Police are waiting to receive results from a blood test to determine if criminal charges should be made against the wrong-way driver.
