Last 9/11 wrongful death lawsuit settled

Posted on Wednesday, September 21st, 2011 at 9:44 pm

The last wrongful death lawsuit filed on behalf of a 31 year-old man, who was on United Airlines Flight 175, has been settled in a Federal District Court in Manhattan.

The lawsuit was filed by the family in 2002 against United Airlines and the security company, Huntleigh USA. The family argued that the companies did not have appropriate security, had a history of security failures, inexperienced screeners, and failed to heed advice from an United Airlines executive to improve training and staffing. The defendants claimed that all security systems and checkpoints were up-to-date and working according to government standards, and that they could have in no way prevented the attack that the federal government was not aware of.

The legal settlements have not been made public, but United and Huntleigh both stated that they were pleased to have resolved the case.
