Mandatory bus seat belt regulation proposed

Posted on Tuesday, August 24th, 2010 at 1:18 pm

A federal regulation to make lap and shoulder seat belts mandatory in buses has been proposed and it would make it a requirement for new motor coach buses to install them. This would include all commuter and charter buses that are used on Garden State Parkway.

The U.S. Transportation Secretary announced the new proposal last week and explained that it is aimed to protect bus passengers from being ejected from buses if they are in an accident.

The law was proposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and it would be put into place in three years.
