When you are involved in a car accident, your own car insurance is obligated to pay for certain benefits. There are however certain obligations that you as a policy holder must follow. One of these obligations is to submit to a statement under oath when your insurance requests one. If you do not comply with this request, you may put your benefits in jeopardy.

For example, if your car is stolen and you make a claim under your policy, you may have to submit to a statement under oath. A statement under oath is a statement taken by an attorney from your insurance company while you are under oath. A Court reporter will be present to transcribe that questions and answers and this will be printed into a booklet for your review.

Be aware of statements under oath as they are generally taken when an insurance company has some evidence of fraud, or misconduct on behalf of its policyholder.
