WORKERS’ COMPENSATION PERMANENT DISABILITY

Many people think that because their employer has paid them while they were out of work for a job related injury and all their medical bills were also paid, that they have received all they are entitled to under the law. This is not true.

When an injured worker suffers a permanent injury, he can also get additional monetary benefits. A permanent injury is defined as one that the injured worker can document through medical objective evidence (an x-ray, MRI or CT Scan for example) and that the condition affects his job and his life outside the job. For example, if an injured worker suffers a torn rotator cuff of his shoulder, that is documented by an MRI. If the condition also affects his ability to do his job and other activities outside of work, he qualifies for what is called permanent disability benefits.

New Jersey has a chart that lists your body parts with dollar figures. Depending on how disabled the body part is, determines how much money you get. It’s a simple procedure, but you generally need to get a compensation lawyer to guide you through the process. It may be well worth it to you.
