WORKERS’ COMPENSATION, FMLA (FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE ACT), ADA (AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT), LAD (LAW AGAINST DISCRIMINATION)
The above four laws provide various rights and obligations concerning four areas of laws that overlap with each other. When analyzing a particular set of facts, one must be aware that these laws exist. You cannot properly be advised if your rights without knowing each law and how each one related to another.
Briefly each law covers the following:
1) Workers’ compensation provides for income and the payment of medical bills for work related injuries.
2) FMLA provides for unpaid leave from work with job protection.
3) ADA provides for accommodations that are necessary for one to continue to do their job because of an illness or injury.
4) LAD protects one from being discriminated against due to race, age, religion, natural origin, sex or disability.
If you are concerned about any one of these laws, you need to consult with an attorney who also knows about these other laws.
