ATTORNEY CERTIFICATION

The practice of law like any other business has become specialized depending on the area of law. The New Jersey Supreme Court has recognized that four (4) particular areas of law are particularly specialized. They are the following:

1) Family Law

2) Civil Trial Law

3) Criminal Trial Law

4) Workers’ Compensation Law

As a result of this recognition, attorneys have been able to obtain a “certification”. To become “certified” in any one of these areas of law the attorney must complete an application listing the number of cases handled and the types of cases. They must also give references of Judges and Attorneys to support their application. Lastly, they must pass a written test.

The purpose of the Certification title is to inform the public that certain attorneys have a particular area of specialty.
